N1XBM – Weather Station
Local telemetry, sensors, and sky conditions
Welcome to the N1XBM personal weather station documentation page. Here you'll find a look at the hardware setup, sensor installations, and monitoring gear tracking local conditions, lightning data, and weather alerts from the shack.The heart of the station is a Peet Bros utlimeter 2100. This is a wired station, that provides the bulk of my weather monitoring. I also added an Ecowitt WH57 lightning sesnsor, this is a wireless sensor that reports to the Ecowitt GW1200 gateway.I purposely chose Ecowitt and Peet Bros because their reporting formats are published and are compatible so they can report together. The weather is set to provide vital alerts for weather conditions and lightning. What you can't see here is my Meshtastic node at the top of my tower has a BME280 enviromental sensor that I wrote a python script to grab that data from Meshtastic and report it to my weather site. So not only do I get ground conditions I get conditions as the tower top. This station is mounted on a pole in the open approximately 150 feet from our home and is about 7 feet off the ground. This is per manufacturers recomendations for accurate reporting.

Pictured here is the Peet Bros temperature, humidity, barometric pressure sensor, and rain bucket. I had to add the razor wire becauase the birds were filling the rain bucket with poop!
Lightning Detector
In the middle of the pole is the Ecowitt WH57 lightning sensor. It is inside a Stevenson screen and reports to the Ecowitt GW1200 wireless gateway. This detector can detect number of strikes, time of strike, and distance. It also alerts me if a strike hits within 10 miles or less.
